Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account, signing in, or using DunbarrioSolo (the “App”), you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy published alongside them. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. Not Medical or Therapeutic Advice

The AI-generated mascot responses and Weekly Weave syntheses are automated reflections designed to facilitate journaling. They are not clinical diagnoses and are not produced by mental health professionals. The App may reference research findings in context—for example, when acknowledging sustained writing duration—and this does not constitute clinical guidance.

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, severe distress, or thoughts of self-harm, discontinue use and contact emergency services or a qualified provider. In the United States, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or text HOME to 741741 for the Crisis Text Line.

3. Eligibility and Your Account

You must be at least 16 years old to use the App. By creating an account, you represent that you meet this requirement. If we learn that a user is under 16, we will delete their account and associated content, subject to the limited retention described in the Privacy Policy.

You may sign in with Google or with an email address and password, and you may enable multi-factor authentication. You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential. You may not share your account or create multiple accounts.

Your Vault Passphrase is not a password we can reset. Your journal content is protected by a passphrase you choose and a Recovery Phrase shown to you once. We do not hold either and cannot recover your content if you lose both. Keep the Recovery Phrase somewhere safe.

4. What the Service Does

DunbarrioSolo is a private journaling and relationship-reflection app. You can write private embraces directed at illustrated mascot characters, organise circles of relationships, review a Ledger of connection acts, and generate AI-assisted reflections such as mascot replies and Weekly Weaves.

The App also includes invitations and mutual connections between accounts, shared circle governance, structured AI-mediated repair sessions between mutually connected people, and a Library of reusable routine packs that can be kept private, shared within a circle, or shared through an unlisted link. A user-facing path to public Library submission is not currently available.

We may change, improve, suspend, or retire features over time. Available export tools and any service-change notices will be presented through the App.

5. Your Content

You retain ownership of the text and data you submit. You give us the limited permission necessary to host, process, secure, and display that content inside the service, including storing encrypted journal content, using it to generate AI features you request, and creating derived artifacts such as Weekly Weaves and activity summaries. This permission ends when you delete the relevant content or your account, subject to the limited residual records described in the Privacy Policy.

DunbarrioSolo is private by default. There is no public audience, feed, follower system, or profile discovery for your journal. Journal entries are not published. Library artifacts cannot currently be submitted for public publication through the App.

Sharing otherwise happens through actions you take one at a time, such as an invitation, mutual connection, unlisted Library link, circle-governance action, or repair session. Journal entries and private notes about people are not shared with another user through those features.

When someone accepts your invitation, the App may offer them people already in your circles as placement suggestions. A suggestion can carry that person’s name, picture, mascot, accent colour, and how long they have been in one of your circles. It does not carry their birthday, postal code, contact channels, social accounts, your relationship label for them, or your private notes.

We do not sell your content or use it for advertising. We process content with service providers only as needed to provide features you request, as described in the Privacy Policy. We do not use your content to train AI models, and we do not permit it to be used to train models operated by us.

Content about other people. Your circles may record real people who are not users of the service. You are responsible for what you choose to record about them.

6. AI-Assisted Features and Limitations

Some features send your text to third-party AI providers to generate responses or summaries. On the free tier you may instead enable an on-device model on a supported device. In on-device mode the AI prompt is generated in your browser and is not sent to an AI provider; the rest of the App continues to use our servers normally.

Provider routing. Online AI features use Google Gemini or Anthropic Claude depending on the feature and plan. Mascot replies try Gemini first on the free tier and Claude first on paid tiers; if that provider is unavailable, the mascot-reply request may be retried at the other provider. Weekly Weaves and Weave follow-up conversations currently remain with their selected provider rather than switching providers.

You acknowledge that:

• AI models can hallucinate, misunderstand context, or respond incongruously. Output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or emotionally off.
• The AI is constrained to brief, character-driven responses and is not designed to offer life advice or resolve deep psychological conflicts.
• AI output is not medical, legal, financial, or mental-health advice. You remain responsible for how you interpret and use it.
• You can turn off “Let the Mascot Answer” on an embrace. An entry saved with that option off is not sent to an AI provider.
• The AI may attempt to direct you to crisis resources if it detects severe distress, but this detection is imperfect and must not be relied on as a safety mechanism.
• Model names and versions may change as providers release new ones.

7. Subscriptions and Billing

Prices, billing cadence, applicable taxes, and the current contents of each tier are shown in the App at the point of purchase. The checkout and subscription flow govern the amount charged and renewal.

Free and paid use is subject to limits on embraces, submitted text, and Weekly Weave generation or regeneration. Current limits are shown in the App.

Payments are processed by Stripe. By subscribing, you authorise recurring billing for the plan you select until it is cancelled.

Upgrades may take effect immediately with a prorated charge. Downgrades and cancellations are managed through the Stripe billing portal; the portal displays and governs when a requested change takes effect. Refunds are not issued for partial billing periods except where required by law.

We may modify tiers, limits, model allocations, and pricing. Any notice required for a change will be provided through the App or another available channel.

If you delete your account, the App attempts to cancel an active subscription. Deletion does not automatically create a prorated refund, and a cancellation attempt can fail. Cancel through the billing portal before deleting or confirm afterwards through Stripe’s own communications that billing has stopped.

8. Acceptable Use

You may not:

• use the App for illegal purposes or to harass, threaten, or harm any person;
• attempt to access accounts or data that are not yours;
• circumvent rate limits, subscription restrictions, or security controls;
• submit content designed to manipulate, exploit, or extract underlying AI models;
• use automated tools to scrape, overload, or disrupt the service;
• reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract server-side source code;
• create accounts to abuse free-tier resources; or
• impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, with or without notice depending on severity.

9. Intellectual Property

The App’s design, mascot illustrations, character voice profiles, animation assets, branding, and software are protected intellectual property. The default mascot characters and their associated visual and voice identities are protected creative works.

You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from the App’s mascot assets, animations, or character designs without written permission.

10. Export and Deletion

You can export data from the Ledger Export feature in .txt, .md, and .csv formats. Encrypted entries are decrypted on your device during export. The export covers the categories described in the Privacy Policy but currently excludes the per-version history behind Keep entries.

You can permanently delete your account through Profile → Settings → Delete My Account. Deletion is irreversible. It attempts to cancel an active subscription and removes your credentials, journal and Ledger entries, Keep history, circles and the people recorded in them, Weekly Weaves, progression, support conversations, repair sessions, and wrapped encryption keys from the live service.

Cancellation is attempted, not guaranteed. Deletion does not wait for Stripe to confirm it. Limited accounting, fraud-prevention, aggregate-metric, webhook, telemetry, backup, and provider-platform records may remain or age out on their own schedules. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Export before deleting. There is no undo.

11. Service Availability

We aim to keep the App available and reliable but do not guarantee uninterrupted operation. The App depends on third-party services—including Supabase, Stripe, Anthropic, Google, Vercel, and Cloudflare—that may experience outages beyond our control.

12. Disclaimers

The service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not guarantee that the service will always be available, error-free, or suitable for every purpose. Your use of the App is at your sole risk.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, DunbarrioSolo and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the App or its AI features. This includes emotional distress, relationship outcomes, reliance on AI-generated content, data loss beyond what our backup systems can recover, or third-party service failures.

Our total liability for any claim related to the App is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $50, whichever is greater.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the App, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third party’s rights.

15. Dispute Resolution

Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the App will be resolved through binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, conducted in Seattle, Washington. You waive any right to participate in a class action. Either party may seek injunctive relief in a court of competent jurisdiction for matters involving intellectual property or data security.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. When we do, we will update the date on this page. If changes are material, we will provide notice in the App and may ask you to review and accept the updated Terms. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

17. Governing Law and Severability

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full effect.
